Hirsh’s Shoes has three certified pedorthists on staff to help you find the correctly fitting shoe for your foot.

We can fill your Doctors’ prescriptions. And more than 90 percent of our shoes have inserts that can be removed or ‘remodeled.’ Whatever your orthotic needs we can accommodate you. We have all sizes and widths in stock or within a few days’ delivery.

What is an Orthotic?
An orthotic is a custom-made device that controls the amount of excessive movement that a foot goes through when walking, running or cycling. Most people flatten the arch when the foot strikes the ground, which is called pronate. Supinate is a movement that allows the foot to be a more stable, rigid structure for when we push off on our next step; too much movement either way can be a problem.

What is a Certified Pedorthist?
Pedorthists are trained professionals who can modify footwear to provide relief from many painful or debilitating conditions of the legs and feet. Pedorthists do not diagnose conditions- that is the responsibility of the physicians. Pedorthists, like pharmacists, fill a prescription written by a medical doctor who has assessed, diagnosed and decided on a treatment plan.

The most common conditions treated by a pedorthist include:

- Plantar Fasciitis (pain in heel or arch)
- Metatarsalgia (pain in the joint of the ball of the foot)
- Diabetes
- Arthritis
- Pronation or Supination Control
- Pes Planus (flat feet)
- Pes Cavus (high arches)
- Bunions
- Hammer Toes
- Mis-Mating
